The Chapters of Life — And Why Midlife Is the Perfect Time to Rewrite Yours

I’m back! Have you missed me?

I have to admit, it feels like ages since I last popped into your inbox — but what a couple of months it’s been!

I’m back! Have you missed me?

ages

Let me catch you up:
✨ I got married!
🥾 I hiked 500km on the Camino de Santiago as a honeymoon (or as we like to call it, our Camimoon).
🎉 My new husband officially retired — although, as a self-employed business owner, unofficially, not much has changed.
🎂 We celebrated his birthday in epic style.
🏡 And now, we’re waiting to hear whether we’ve secured a new property that would kick off a massive Grand Designs-style project.

No wonder my head is spinning a little! And yet, amidst the whirlwind, one theme keeps rising to the surface:

Life is made up of chapters.

And right now, I’ve just closed one and cracked open another.

But first things first:
I am back from the Camino (see the photo above, still with a very long way to go!). And what an experience it was. Walking that iconic trail was more than just a physical challenge — it was a deep, soul-stirring, life-affirming journey. I’ve got so much to share, and even more to process, so bear with me over the coming weeks as I begin to unpack the stories, lessons, and moments that moved me.

For now, the Camino has sparked a much bigger reflection — on life itself.

Life as a Book of Chapters

Life as a Book of Chapters

Have you ever looked back on your life and realised how clearly it can be divided into chapters?

chapters

There’s the carefree chapter of youth. The striving chapter of career-building. The family-raising, home-nesting, responsibility-laden middle chapters. And then… what? (Click HERE for more musings on this theory and how our chapters of life influence our travels.)

For so many of us women in midlife, there’s an uncomfortable pause. A wondering. A feeling of, Is this it?

Is this it?

Or maybe a whisper that says, There’s got to be more.

There’s got to be more.

I’m here to tell you — there is.

there is

Your Next Chapter Is Yours to Write

Your Next Chapter Is Yours to Write

Midlife isn’t the end of the story. It’s not even the climax. It’s a powerful turning point. A moment to pick up the pen and write a new chapter that’s bold, brave, and entirely your own.

For me, the last chapter was about loss, grief, healing and then rebuilding. Finding myself and creating a life that I loved through travel and adventure.

This next chapter promises an even greater transformation. I never expected to meet someone again after losing my husband, let alone get married. I never imagined I’d spend my honeymoon hiking across northern Spain with a backpack and blistered feet. But that’s the thing about chapters — they can surprise you if you let them.

What Could Your Next Chapter Look Like?

What Could Your Next Chapter Look Like?

Maybe you want to explore the world solo.

Maybe you’re ready to swap the routine for the remarkable.

Maybe you’re craving connection, challenge, or just the quiet of your own company on a mountain trail somewhere.

You don’t need all the answers yet. You just need a spark — a willingness to imagine something different, and the courage to take the first step.

Travel can be the perfect catalyst for that change. It lifts you out of your everyday and lets you see yourself — and your possibilities — with fresh eyes. It doesn’t have to be 500km on the Camino (though I highly recommend it!) — it just needs to be something that shifts you.

So… What’s Your Story?

So… What’s Your Story?

As I settle back into ‘normal life’ (whatever that is now!), I’ll be sharing more about our Camimoon, the lessons I learned with each step, and the inspiration I’ve drawn for the next chapter of my life. But I’ll pace myself.

my

Because a new chapter deserves to be written slowly and intentionally.

Here’s to midlife reinvention, wild dreams, and stories worth telling.

The next chapter is waiting.

So, {{ subscriber.first_name }}, if your life were a book, what would the next chapter look like? And more importantly — how will you write it? Hit reply to this email to let me know or connect via your social method of choice (FacebookInstagramYouTubePinterestThreads or LinkedIn) to give me all the details. After all, the first step to change is imagining it.

🚍  For tours and activities, my preferred supplier is Get Your Guide

🗺️ For multi day or week tours, check out G Adventures. I used them for trips in Costa Rica, Peru, and Galapagos.

🤞 I would never leave home without travel insurance. With Safety Wing you can take out an annual policy and pay monthly. This takes the hassle out of having to remember for us regular travellers.

🛫 For cheap flights, check out Skyscanner or join Jacks Flight Club which scans the internet for error fares (UK only).

🧳 For luggage storage on your travels, I recommend the service by Bounce.
